When i enter a rs232 hex code into the pronto (example 55 08 57 00 00 02 00 01 49) under the add rs232 he section, the entered code is transmitted differently ? ie the 1st byte 55 appears as 35. if i enter the code in the ASCII area with a \x in front of every byte is transmitted OK (just takes a lot longer) i have to programme 7 remotes.

I have linked the pc running a serial port monitor to the extender to see what is actully transmits out

I know its probably me but can any one help.

That's because the values expected in the entry field of the editor expects hexadecimal. The values you have are ascii characters that you are entering. That is, '55' is 0x35 0x35. That's why you are seeing what you are seeing.

Now, if you enter the values, not in the ASCII window but in the Hex window (select the Hex radio button), you'll get different results and be able to directly enter 55 08 57 00 00 02 00 01 49 and get the results you desire.

If you choose to remain in the ASCII window, you have no choice but to put \x in front of your entries.

And yes, it is you. :)

I won't eliminate possibility of a bug but you are the first person to report something such as this. Can you email me a config with one page, one button, one action containing the RS232 that is failing? I suspect it is possibly a mismatch on parity/startbits/stopbits or something like that but I'd like to see the config. My email addy is on my profile.

Thanks,
Lyndel

Lyndel,

I have a related issue that I hope you can help me with.

I have a string of RS232 hex commands 0x21, 0x01, 0x00, etc.

Can you guide me to a program/formula that will enable me to enter them into either the Ascii box or the Hex box.

TIA. John.

No joy. Must be a syntax issue I guess.

The commands I'm using are /x21 /x00 /x01 etc etc

I've tried running them together, with a single space between them and both wit hand without commas.

Anything else I can try?

TIA. JOhn.
