I have a TSU9600 & RFX9400 and have got most of my system working. I am not a professional. This is my personal HT setup.

My Sony DVD and CD player seem to have a problem executing certain IR commands. For example, the 5 disc DVD player will not respond to any of the cursor (including the "okay") commands. My Sony 5 disc CD player will not respond to the stop command.

The RFX9400 Extender shows a command is being sent.

The OEM remotes execute the operations.

All the other DVD and CD commands work perfectly.

I have tried playing with the duration and learning in Raw mode, to no avail.

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Geary

What are the model numbers of your DVD and CD player?

WOW! Lowpro, thanks for the quick response.

CD - Sony CDP-CE535 (not in fatory database)

DVD - Sony DVD-NC85H (also not in factory database)

I tried bringing other Sony models in the factory database into my database to try and copy the stop (and other codes) into my project, but I was not able to see (or copy) the hex code. It just said "factory database" or something like that.

Thanks,
Geary

Give these a try using the default duration.

I'm grinnin. All the cursor commands that you gave me worked on the DVD. Outstanding! I really appreciate it. The CD stop command does not work. I'll keep trying differnent things.

This is a great site and people like you, who take time to help just to be nice make this site the great reference that it is.

Thanks again,

Not suprised that the "Stop" code doesn't work. The codes I provided are ones I use for my Sony DVP-CX985V DVD changers set to Command Mode 1. Your CD player is most certainly operating off a different codeset. That being said, you could try the "Stop" code for Command Modes 2 and 3 to see if either of them work for your CD player.

Below I've provided a link to a XCF file I did up real quick containing the full set of Sony DVD IR codes I use for Command Modes 1-3.

Sony DVD Codesets (Command Modes 1-3):
[Link: box.net]

I've been using these codes for several years now. They've actually been modified from their original state. This was done as a work around after Philips released a firmware update and the original codes I was using stopped working properly. Said firmware update was for the TSU7000 I was using at the time as I recall. To read about how I modified these codes and why it solved my problem check out this post. It's an interesting read. In any event, glad I was able to help. Let me know if the "Stop" command for Command Modes 2 or 3 work for your CD player. Would be interesting to know.

Lowpro - Thanks for giving me those files. Unfourtunatly, the stop still does not work. It boggles my mind why all other CD functions work and only the stop suffers this problem.

I read your link to the thread about the firmware issue and Sony Changer problems. And, although interesting, I don't believe my problem is related.

At this point, I am so happy that we've got the DVD cursor issue solved, I'm not going to be upset about the CD stop issue... at least until tomorrow. I think I share the same programming mind set that you do, so we both know that this issue will nag at me until I can figure it out.

I'm going to play around with really long durations and see if that does anything.

Thanks,
Geary

I just happened to glance at this post. What I am about to say is from memory, but I am pretty sure I am right. When I get some time I will dig up my notes I have the Sony IR engineering specs somewhere.
.
Sony codes never required any "delay". The real issue is that IR patterns sent to a Sony device had to be 45 miliseconds apart. That is, the minimum time between two successive transmission starts had to be 45 miliseconds.

Ergo, to make it simple, a pattern sent to a Sony device had to be at least 45 miliseconds long. I guess it could be 20 milliseconds long if you can guarantee that nothing would be sent for another 25 miliseconds. In my IR pattern generators, when generating a sony pattern, I always adjusted the final off time so that the total duration of the pattern was 45 milliseconds. If another command came before the 45 miliseconds was up trouble would ensue. I also found that Sony devices generally wanted to see the pattern twice (each occurrance obeying the 45 milisec rule).

At one time Philips in its wisdom was "Adjusting (shortening)" the final off times which could have led to the need for a "Delay". I have/had a lot of Sony devices and each one worked from IR flawlessly using the above rule.

Also older Sony devices always used the same key codes whenever possible. The command set numbers were an alteration to the device code.

Barry and Lowpro - Thanks for your help. Barry, with some of the issues that you raised regarding sony and the 45 milisec rule, I played around with it and got it working.

I appreciate everyone's help!

Glad we were able to help. I have been playing around with IR since the early days of this forum and at times it still is a mystery to me
