The question I have is who is Phillips talking to to get
their research?? Did they not consult with an integrator
that will sell most of these remotes for them?

No idea. I would have been happy to give them my input. So would many others I'm sure.

NO GUIDE BUTTON?! The guide button is certainly more valuable
than an reverse arrow (For back I suppose?). Do I have
to get my P-touch out now?

What about the icon below the channel buttons. What is
That? Please do not say backlight!

The Guide button is the button just below the Channel buttons. It's the symbol of the open book or whatever. This is the same exact button on the TSU9600. To me it would have just made so much more sense to group common functions together. The Guide button should be down there with the Menu and Info buttons. They should have also added an Exit button down there as well. Looks like plenty of room to me for 4 buttons across the bottom down there. The Back button which has that back arrow symbol on it clearly needs to be under the channel buttons instead of where it is now. This function is commonly used for the previous channel and last functions of many cable boxes for instance.

With great sites like these promoting their use, you would
think they (Philips) would have separate discrete on
and off buttons instead of the crappy power icon button.
I know that this is what the 9200 has.

I was never a big fan of the Power Button to begin with. The TSU9600 has this button as well which I use as my Home button. This allows me to utilitze all three buttons over the directional pad, one of which is the actual Home button for the most commonly used functions per activity. (Talking about the TSU9600 here now.) This setup has much better flow. :-P Just wish I could swap the physical Power and Home hard buttons on the remote itself now. Probably could, but I'm uncomfortable with taking the remote apart. I'd probably screw something up.

As far as powering on and off components and my system I have power on and off buttons on the lower left side of the screen. While on an activity based page they power on and off the main component for a given activity. While on my Activities page they power on and off my whole system. I even have the Page Up and Page Down buttons on my Activities page programmed for System On and System Off. Was not using them for anything on my Activites page anyway.

Note hear regarding the pics of the remote...
If you take a look at Pic 3 from my earlier reply you can see the Page Up, Page Down, and Backlight buttons are on the left side of the remote just as they were on the Pronto NG remotes.

Thanks to everyone that posted the pictures.

I am a custom integrator and the Phillips Pronto remote
has been a staple in our surround sound systems since
they were first introduced. We have sold hundreds of prontos
since the TS1000 came out. The TSU7500 is in every family
room (and some Theaters) we sell.

The question I have is who is Phillips talking to to get
their research?? Did they not consult with an integrator

The hard button icons terrible! They would be better off
engraving words over the buttons.

That? Please do not say backlight!

And now for the charger. Looks like they are reverting
to original style "no click" charging base. Hopefully
what we are seeing is a prototype that has been refined
since as this is a poor design that failed quite often
if the remote was not positioned just right after use.

I don't mean to Knock Philips too hard, as we will probably
still sell the remote since all the time we have into
our interface. But it would have been nice to have been
a part of the design process since we sell so many. I
have taken part in a beta test in the past for software
but have yet to stumble on a hardware beta..

In general I agree with your arguments re hard buttons. I have over the years owned, at some point in time, most of the pronto range and I have never been overly impressed with the button images. The problem is that Philips are obviously trying to cover all angles and making the buttons generic.

What surprises me it that when you consider all the sophistication of the device that Philips have never thought about making the hard button images customisable by selling a kit of interchangeable buttons.

I second that idea! Like I said in my earlier reply. If I had the stomach for it I'd swap the freakin Power and Home hard buttons on my TSU9600. Would be great to change the symbol on the Power button while I was at it to Info instead. :-)

Well no one said this before, but what an ugly remote! Don't you think?

I whould prefer that they had keep the vol, ch, mute buttons where they were on the NGs and add an on and off on the top of the remote. A power buton has no use!

I did not love the NG design but it's much better than the 9400. I hope Marantz do a better job in finishing it, but I doubt, since it looks like that it will be only a color change.

Well after this, and as I do not need the 2way RF, I 'll stick to the 7500s until I can.

Ossocao,

I completely agree with you. I had a TSU3000 and a TSU7000 and was hopeful that the 9400 would basically be a more sophisticated TSU7500 with an improved case design, screen, and more thought put into button layout and design.

The TSU9400 doesn't look ANYTHING like I had hoped. I think it's a step backwards aesthetically and I certainly won't be upgrading to it. I'll wait and buy a 9600 used at some point. Obviously this puts no money in Phillips pockets but since it seems that they don't do much market research they've made their beds IMO.

I was holping for an Iphone look. That means no plastic around the screen and as a result a smaller remote.

By the way, what docking is that? No lines at all, worse than than the TS1000 base.

I will keep mine TSU7000/7500 fleet and wait for the new remote to come after the 9400, maybe 5 years from now.

Note that Remote Shoppe now has even more photos, including interior pix, specifications and (TA DA!) the introductory USER'S MANUAL!! Mentions a Stylus!!!

More examination tells me that the "Guide" is a mockup. One screen is missing, and the one that is there is in landscape mode - prolly from the 9600. I think the stylus reference doesn't apply to this remote. (Edit) -- I was wrong - there is a stylus - stored in the back of the remote.

Also, the docking station on the "manual" is not at all like the real one.

The manual is not from a 9400, It says 9400 on top but the base, the specifications and the screen pic are from the 9600.

On the internal photos. Note led light around the hard keys, also a led light around the LCD there is a clear plastic frame around the screen to conduct the light.

Never saw this screen before. Not form the MX3000 at all. Note the touch screen conector on top of the remote.

Reset button on the back, on the top of the battery door. Rubber keypad, bye metal, not good at all, we know how fast the carbon conductive layer get damaged. A problem in my point of view for the more hit buttos, like channel and volume.

Amazing is how components are been reduced to chips, this remote seens to have half the number compared to 7000. Should cost less for us don't you think?

Stilus in a remote control makes me laugh. Not for me at all.

wow! I like it....

i was leaning towards the Nevo(mainly because of it physical design)....and now this remote almost mirrors it.

It also seems to have some good features.

Should be an interesting one.
Any idea when its actually coming out?
