My home theater is located on the other side of the house from my computer and it would be very difficult to run a wired conection from the rfx9600 to my router. I understand that a wired connection is required to use the rfx9600. Does anyone know if it would work properly if I purchased a bridge such as the linksys WET54G or the WET54GS5. My understanding is that I could plug the extender into the bridge with a wired conncetion and the bridge would then send a wireless signal to my router which is a wireless home router.

Any help is appreciated.

That would work perfectly.

I would never consider a Wireless bridge for the RFX9600; I will guarantee an exercise of frustration just to change channels in your TV. Instead, I will consider others options:

1-- PowerLine HD Ethernet; this device will allow to use your existing DC wiring to send data back and forth to your Home Network. There are few limitations and you should research before making any decision.

2-- Networking over RG6; if you happen to have spare RG6 or RG59 wires in your destination room, this might be the most optimal solution for you. Read on!

Good luck!

I ran an RFX9600, a PC, and an Escient DVDM-100 on a Linksys 5 port switch behind a WAP54G in Bridge mode until a few months ago.

I never really had any problems with this setup.

However, note that when running in "Bridge" mode, the WAP54G did not act as an access point. Hence, I changed to wired network with the WAP54G acting as a Wireless Repeater to get things working quite nicely.

I can't speak about your set up. But I work in many networks were bridging them together have prove them questionable unreliable; temporary connection loss, long periods of data transmission (3 times as a wire connection), time wasted reestablishing link, and a possible open door for hackers.

The only devices capable to create reliable bridge are Cisco branded and are way more expensive than the RFX9600 and the Linksys mentioned. Even then, if you deploy them in cities like New York they are guaranteed to fail at any time due to the amount of wireless networks, phones, and many antennas posted thruout the city!

Again, you should consider the "wire" solution available for devices that will talk to each others back and forth thru your network, unless you are trying to communicate with your dummy printer.

I have to back McFee here. I too wouldn't rule out wireless repeating in case of lack of wiring, it will work as well as your router always works. and I have routers that NEVER failed.
