Hi

Received my new TSU9600 earlier this week. Been working on the layout and set up and discovered early on about the Vista download problems.
Have just installed the latest software on an XP machine and still having problems downloading.

I receiving the same message as I had with the vista machine "ProntoEdit professional cannot locate a compatable Pronto. Please check the connection". The USB Icon is displayed on the Pronto and the PC reconises it as a "hard disk".

The Pronto was purchased from the US but is being used in the UK. Software has been downloaded from the Philips website, removed and re-installed.

Any suggestions??

Make sure the remote is NOT connected to the computer when removing and reinstalling software. You did not indicate whether this was or was not the case.

Have you undocked the remote, reset the remote, then redocked the remote and tested? This is the first thing you should try prior to taking any other steps.

Have tried the reset and re dock and nothing works.

Tried a firmware upgrade and still the same problem.

There is a minor rattle which I had first presumed was the tilt activation censor but i'm now concerned that it is a fault, possibley a dry solder problem

The unit is obviously less tha 12mths old and therefore still in its warrantee Unfortunately for me the item was purchased via ebay. Would it still be covered by the warrantee??

I have the Product Registration card serial number etc.

Other than the obvious (dont buy from ebay) any other suggestions

Try the following .....

How to initiate a full firmware update?

In some rare occasions it might occur that the software
on the device goes corrupt even preventing one from doing
a firmware update.
In such case, follow the steps below in order to enforce
a full firmware update:

Start the firmware updater.

Undock the TSU9600 and press the Next button.

On the next screen press the Troubleshoot buttton.

Place the TSU9600 into the docking and wait for the Repair
button to enable itself.

Now reset the control panel by pressing the key combination:
Page +, Home and Menu simultaneously immediately followed
by the next step.

Within 2 seconds set the firmware update flag by pressing
the following key combination for 2 seconds: Firmkey 2,
Firmkey 3 and Firmkey 4 (below the LCD) simultaneously
. The control panel will now start up showing a dialog
saying: "Application Firmware Download mode, normal operation
not possible.

Finally press te Repair button and wait for the update
to finish.

I had a problem downloading to my TSU9600 as well one time and the only thing that worked was the above.

I have tried the full firmware update but this fails as it cannot communicate with the Pronto. Eventually an error message stating that the firmware update has failed is displayed

The strange this is that the USB icon is on and the PC recongnises the unit as an "hard disc".

Is there any way to "force" an update by exploring the "hard disc"

Any thoughts on the warrantee situation anyone??

This may sound strange but here I go...
First, do you connect the TSU 9600 directly to the computer or are you using the docking station?
Here's what happened to me recently; I was getting the same error and found that the connection to the docking station was not right. Make sure that the connection is all the way in the docking USB socket. I found that the connection to the TSU 9600 is kind of loose and the one to the docking station is more difficult to plug all the way in with the wire.
If you get the error when connected directly to the computer (not using the docking station) then I may not be able to help.

I get the error irrespective of how it is connected.

As I said in one of the posts above the unit also rattles, I presume this is not normal.

Does anyone know of a repair centre or contact at Philips I can try to see if the unit is faulty??

The rattle is normal. It's the pick-up sensor which is a small ball-bearing. Every pronto has it, see other posts on the topic.

Hope you get the USB issue sorted.

Thanks everyone for all your assistance.

I have finally managed to get the unit to communicate. Tried it with a third PC running XP MCE and it worked first time! I was aware of the porblem with Vista on the first PC, the second was running XP Pro (are there any documented problems with this???) and the third XP MCE.

Was begining to think I had purchased a dud!

Thanks again

Chris

Chris -

I have mine on a laptop and desktop running XP Pro and have not had any problem at all. I have had the remote since its release last year!

I've been using XP Pro exclusively with my TSU9600 and PEP. No specific problems regarding XP Pro that I'm aware of. I do have problems with XP Pro detecting the remote quite often. I'd say at least once every week or two. A simple undock, remote reset, redock always does the trick however, and like I said earlier, there was the one time I had to do a full firmware update to get things working again.

Interesting note on the full firmware update....
Prior to running the full firmware update it was taking a very long time for me to download my XCF to the remote. We are talking 6 minutes or more here. Seemed way too long to me even with my XCF being around 36 megs which leaves less than 1% free memory in the remote. Well after running the full firmware update I was pleasantly suprised to find my XCF downloading to the remote in under 3 minutes. It's been a couple months now since running the full firmware update and downloads are still taking just under 3 minutes thankfully.
