Philips has just got in touch with me again to confirm that the update will not include vista. They said to try and load original software to see if that will work.Pretty poor if you ask me.

Who did you speak to at Philips, Plasmakris? Everything I've read or heard about this software would suggest that Vista is on the cards.

Space4ace seems to have got a different answer:

Perhaps it's Philips tech support that's the problem, rather than the new software?

I was wondering what call centre you were talking to? If they couldn't give an ETA, it's probably in that software that also has no ETA. So it's going to be one big fix-all package when it arrives. I can't wait!

Hi,
In my email, I specifically asked for the ProntoEdit Professional upgrade with Windows Vista support and the guy said by the end of June.
If we're getting different stories from different folks then this thing may drag on for another 4 and a half months (since we've already waited 4 and a half months since Vista came out officially). It would be interesting to have someone else write and see what answer they get.
Patience going... Going... Gone!!! Well, not yet.

You guys crack me up. "Patience going..." Give me a break.

The next release includes 2-way RS-232 and scripting. No, small feat so please stop complaining about timeframes. See the other links about Cedia in Denver and proposed training courses and their content. I can also state that Philips does plan to support Vista in next release and confirms what Space4ace passed along above.

Lyndel McGee: I was only kidding about the "patience" thing. I don't even have the Pronto TSU9600 yet but it's coming in this week (I just got confirmation that it's been shipped) so I'm pretty excited.
Like somebody else said already, it's better to wait and get a good update then to get one full of bugs.

for cryin out loud, I personally am not really sure what people are looking for here...

You guys all want an update for the 9600 to work with Vista, but haven't taken the time to realize, that MS hasn't even given you any updates to make Vista work properly itself...

Vista may be new, but its still incomplete, pre-released ---- LAME !!!

Update on Vista:

Vista Compatibility may be limited to running PEP in XP Compatibility mode but I've been assured that it does work. Folks must realize that any time a communication channel is involved (USB), that a rewrite of device drivers must typically occur. When going from 16 bit windows to 32 bit, or 32 bit XP to 64 bit Vista. Things do take time.

Like Warpdrv, I, too, don't jump at every release that comes along. Microsoft rolled out Vista WAY TOO SOON and they did not have all their hardware vendors on board. They did so to ensure that they caught the Christmas rush. Good business decision with respect to the "Cashola Factor" but bad decision for those needing immediate support and NOT buying a pre-built system with matching working hardware (boards, etc...) and preinstalled software.

I'm running XP SP2 and have only been running that for about 2 years. I stuck with Win98SE for the longest time simply because I could do EVERYTHING I needed with that release up until the time I added Theme Support to SuperNudelist.

Lyndel, compatibility mode is not required for the new version of PEP to run under Vista. However, the install kit requires compatibility mode to run.

Peter, thanks for the update. Maybe I'll upgrade before it's no longer supported by Microsoft. :)

Thank you Lyndel and Peter for the updates on what's going on with the future ProntoEdit Pro software update with Vista support.
There will be a lot of happy people when it's released, including me of course since my new Pronto TSU9600 will be in on Monday or Tuesday (I'm tracking it) so I feel like a kid on Christmas day.
Thanks guys!
