Anyone knows if Philips will post a new version of PEP or firmware soon?

Fix bugs and introduce new features maybe?

Just curious.

It has been 6 months since the last update. Pretty bad if ya ask me. I keep hearing that an update is due this month....well, they have 1 week left. Honestly, I think they have abandoned this remote to work on the 9200 and the 9400 models. When (or should I say if?) they release an update it better be damn good.

They are working hard on the 9600 platform. And yes, I think there are many skeptics here who will jump and shout with glee when the next version is finally released.

There is a June 2007 review on the TSU9600 over at Ecoustics.com which I found quite interesting. See the quote below taken from the review.

"Philips plans on releasing several enhancements to the
TSU9600 that are scheduled to be available by the time
you read this. Among these will be support for music stored
on Media Center PCs, as well as control of iMerge music
servers. Even more exciting is the forthcoming Pronto
script programming language that will offer two-way feedback
via RS-232. This will enable the remote to display volume
and input settings on receivers, track and time from DVD
players, and so forth. This is a first at such a price,
and these features will further separate the Pronto from
the pack."

The WPA specification is not fully standardized at this time. There was support in the first Beta but it was pulled just before release. I suspect it was pulled because of differences of implementation between various routers and the difficulties presented by not having a standard spec.

Regarding the above review, I will say the following.

Whenever adding scripting to any platform, having done this myself, I will note that the complexities are many and the feature set of platform extensions must work, work well, and have feel that is natural to the user.

Sometimes, there are things that don't work as expected, could work better, etc... and they MUST be worked out prior to release, otherwise, you are stuck supporting an API that you don't like for the long haul.

Philips is indeed working hard, is dedicated to this platform and really want to do things right.

There's a cover article in Home Cinema Digest here in UK which seems to back up the Ecoustics article. Looks like the Imerge software will cover all 4 zones individually along with loads of 2-way stuff.
Mmmm.. scripting. Now if someone could just teach me how..!

If you are not a programmer, I can't really suggest anything other than a general programming course.

If you are already a web programmer and familiar with JavaScript, then based on the CEDIA Course descriptions, you'll likely be able to apply your current skillset.

Or am I getting my hopes up and they just moved or renamed it!

I've heard nothing about a release this soon. The download page must just be down.
