TSU9400/RFX9400 Command Failed with some Denon codes

So this one has me scratching my head...

TSU9400 communicates via access point to RFX9400. The RFX9400 on port 1 is hardwired to the IR in jack on the back of a Denon DVD-2900 player. The RFX9400 also communicates with a Denon AVR-3808 via IR emitter on port 4, using the kaseikyo codes.

Certain sequences of codes give me "command failed" when the activity macro runs. For example, a series of cursor commands works ok, but if I add an input select command, it fails. The commands all work fine individually. Addition of delays up to 5 seconds does not seem to help, nor does rearranging the order of the commands.

Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks

I had a similar problem and it was in the infrared duration time. I made my a full 1 second and it worked fine. It wasn't with Denon, but with Dish Network. My individual digits worked fine, but when put into a channel macro nothing would work.

I would try that. It's not the timed delays but the duration in the infrared code itself.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip. I tried durations of 0.25, 0.5, and 1 second, but still got the same failure.

Have you tried a sequence of events for one component at a time. What I mean is, run a macro for the Denon amp only. Then do one for the DVD player. See if they execute without any problems. See if we can isolate which component is not working properly. Also, if the DVD player is the problem, try putting an emitter on the front rather than connecting to the rear.

Also, did you check firmware on extender and remote. Sometimes that can cause a problem. When I installed a 9200 a few months ago, the RF feature would not work out of the box until I updated the firmware.

I think one of your problems is connecting the infrared to the rear of the Denon 2900. I was looking at the manual and I don't think that this feature does exactly what you think it does. I would move all infrared to emitters placed onto the front of each component then retest.

Just FYI - I have one of the IR out of the RFX9600 to the IR in on my Denon 3805, then the IR out from the Denon 3805 to the IR in of a Denon DVD player (daisy-chained) and they work just fine this way. It lets me use only one IR port for both devices.

However, I did have to change the dip switch on the RFX9600 to adjust the IR output strength.

I meant to post the resolution to this a while back...

The RFX and TSU were on different subnets - the RFX was on my wired lan, the TSU was on a dedicated WEP access point. Routing and firewalling provided by M0n0wall, with rules in place to allow comms to the RFX, denon preamp (for status via tcp), and tivo.

For some reason, IR command sequences above a certain size were getting dropped at the firewall. Because the Denon codes are quite long, the problem was most apparent when they were used. Macros with up to roughly 10 tivo codes would work, while macros with only 3 to 4 denon codes would fail. The firewall logs indicated something getting dropped, but didn't identify anything that would help refine the rules. I suspect something "unique" about the Pronto protocol that doesn't play quite right across subnets, or through a typical firewall. (Anyone have a TSU/RFX combo on different subnets working with long command sequences??)

In the end, I switched the RFX to wifi and put it on the WEP access point with the TSU, so it's on the same subnet. Everything, including the longer IR command sequences, works fine now. Sure wish Philips would get with the game on WPA2.... :-(
