Hello!
Is it possible to hook up the escient server with the ethernet cableto a computer that is connect via w-lan to the internet to get a internet connection or do i have to hook up the Escient directly to a router?

Your answers would be a great help!!!

So, what I think you are asking is if you could make your computer a "Bridge" to get to the cable modem?

I don't think that Escient would work in this configuration. I think you may be stuck purchasing a router. If you do so, the linksys WRT54G works well with the TSU9600.

You may want to contact Escient as they provide email and telephone support for their equipment.

I would go with the router if I were you. Then any computer in the house has access to the Escient.

I have great luck with the Linksys that Lyndel recommended as well.

You can also use an access point or of those wireless gaming adapters by most everybody now.

What model of Escient? Only Escient units with firmware 4.1.7.8 and higher are supported.

Have you emailed Escient Support? I indicated which version 4.1.7.8 or higher of the firmware was required. I am unsure as to whether or not the SE 160 supports this version as the Escient site only lists the SE 80 as being capable of running this version of firmware.

You will want to either put the Escient on a WAP-Bridge or wired. I highly suggest a wired connection although I run it via WAP at the moment.

FYI, I tried using a D-Link wireless Gaming adapter and putting a 5 port switch behind it because I wanted to support more than 1 wired device. I could NEVER get the darned Linksys to work properly where DHCP was in use. Either the PC or the Escient would register via DHCP, but not both. Spent at least 10 hours on the phone with someone in India who kept insisting that the device supported this configuration and kept sending me through steps to configure as such. Then, to boot, I could not get the Escient in Static IP to work with PC in DHCP on the same switch.

Total waste of my time.

Went out and bought a Linksys WAP54G and was up and running in less than 1 hour.

Don't waste your time with a Gaming Adapter from D-Link unless the Escient is the only thing you want to connect. If you are thinking about possiby adding other network-based devices such as 2 Escient units on the same wireless connector or a PC, do yourself a HUGE favor and scratch off that D-Link piece of equipment.

There is a document on the Escient website at [Link: escient.com]
which should help you get going. As for Fireball PC, the content that the fireball "sees" on the PC will show up on the TSU9600. As for your SE160, I was told during the 9600 beta process that the SE160 is European and is supported ( unlike the US SE80)

Have Fun!

Yes you will need to configure both.

Did you read the Escient setup doc and the PDF posted in the link above about the 9600 integration?

The Escient Pages are not configurable. The only thing you can set is either the server name or IP address and name the device in your config. With the latest software/firmware release, you can also add actions to certain hard buttons in the Escient Device. As you don't yet have your equipment, you have some time. I'd suggest a search for "+Escient" in this forum and you will get around 48 hits.

Skim over the threads to get an idea of limitations based on certain Escient device types as well as the TSU9600 interface. The topic of configuring the hard buttons for the Escient device is also dicussed.

Best of luck.

Hello!
I have now seen that i have to make a new page for the Escient(in my case the European SE160i)
and learn all buttons from the Database..
but does anybody know if i have to make a panel or something to get(see) the artist, duration and the cover on the 9600?
Lyndel, how did you do with your DVDM100?
Comes this automatically if the connection between the9600 and the Escient is ok?
