Hi everybody!
I'm looking for beta testers for a new prontoscript module called Pron2chat.
As the name implies, this is a chat module for the Pronto9600 / 9800. First tests were very quite promising, but - given that I only have one Pronto - a real-life testrun simply isn't possible without other 9600/9800 users.
this is what it looks like:

Pron2chat start screenSetup page - time zone dropdown-menu
Main chat screenPron2chat on-screen keyboard

PRON2chat consists of two active components: The Prontoscript module and server-side PHP scripts.
From what I have observed, both components run stable and smoothly, I just haven't got a clue, what happens, when multiple request are processed simultaneously.
I will be honest to you - this is my first major project and my first real "public" betatest.
I still cannot say, if I can provide this service with the webservers I rented, so I also need this betatest to see if the serverloads are OK, if latencies (the server is in Germany) are acceptable etc. Yet, it is possible, that my webspace provider won't like the fact that hits and transfer volumes suddenly are spiking.
And YES: This will be a commercial product, if the testruns are successful and if there is a demand for a chat module at all.
Of course, there will be no charges during beta-test, nor will there be an automatic upgrade "for your convenience".

You don't have to be a qualified programmer or custom installer to participate this Beta-Test, but basic knowledge on how to set-up your network settings or how to load a prontoscript module with PEP2 should pose no threat to you;-)
Please understand, that there will be no "First-steps-with-a-Pronto" support.
So, if you are interested in joining as beta-tester, drop me a mail to: [email protected]. Please also provide a wish-username & password (max 15 characters, alphanumerical, spaces allowed).
Since Pron2chat needs a registered login account, it would be of no use to simply put a download link here.

Looking very much forward to seeing you on PRON2chat.

Andre, VERY NICE combobox drop-down for TimeZone config. I see you've added that since I last tested.

How long until you write ProntoMUD, ProntoHack, ProntoQuest, ProntoRoids (must be multiplayer)?

Lyndel,
yup, changed a bit since our first test ;-)
Wordwrapping still is a bit of tedious, but it works...

@MVis,
I'm quite at a loss here, the last computer games I played were Counterstrike and The Sims ;-)
But ProntoBattleships is something that I definitley want to try!

Andre, your work is so high-caliber that I'd charge at least a minimum of $10USD for each copy of anything you deliver. If people don't want to pay for it, that is indeed, their loss.

Lyndel,
thanks for this awesome compliment. As of now, I have not made up my mind on how much I will charge. Way too early to tell ;-) Buuuut: The Betatest of Pron2chat (ends Oct. 31) is free, with no limitations. So, come on in and join the group.
Because: chatting with no one online is sooooooo boring ;-)
Best wishes

Andre,

I have downloaded and installed the module, I must say I am really impressed with the layout and the overall quality of the module.

As for the chat side are you able to see all buddies that are online or do these have to be added and if so how do you do this, unforunatley I do not know anyone else that has a tsu9600.

Hey André, although I do not use the Philips line anymore, I must say that what you have created is excellent.

Great design (as usual) & great idea!

Thumbs up for you pal!

Makes me almost want to get one of those prontos! =-)

Chas, thanks for the feedback, really glad you like Pron2chat.
As for the buddy list: If you want to add a user to it, simply select the user, the keyboard pops up. You can now set the radiobutton "is buddy" or press Firm Key 4 to toggle between buddy / no buddy.
Exit the keyboard (red Cancel button or Firm 5) - you don't have to send a message to the user in order to "buddify" him.
In the user list you can now see a green buddy icon left of the user.
Selecting "Show buddies only" hides all other users from this list and the label above it changes from "users online" to "buddies online".

Thank you very much, Joey, appreciate it a lot.
The Pronto series made a giant leap with the introduction of Javascript, and once you get into it a bit, you get even more hooked up on the Pronto.
Best wishes

Hi Andre,

Good to chat, and thanks for your help with Pron2Chat a few other areas of the Pronto.

I would like to request that other members take the opportunity to test this software on behalf of Andre. It's a really great piece of software, and he needs more users on-line to test it thoroughly.

Andre, if you be best if we can agree some set times, say 8.00pm (UK time) each night, that users can agree on for testing. It may be worth considering a time when both US and European users can chat.

Does this sound like a plan?

Cheers, Lee
