Those two lines are in opposition to each other. Personally I would drop the "I'm the best project manager in the world. A prospective employer will make that call themselves. You can list some positive attributes - quick learner being one of them.

You also need to flip flop the top two jobs. You always want you current job on top, and work down.

While you could leave in the private pilot information (it shows your level of detail and focus), I would take out the acrobat training. It has no relavance in this type of job and makes it sound like you are boasting.

Actually there are several items in there that IMHO cross the fine line between stating facts and experiences and boasting about yourself. No prospective employer wants to hire an ego maniac.

I like the bit about being a pilot/acrobat training. I agree it has zero to do with the job hes applying for but i think it will make him stand out in the sea of applications.

What if you end up in one of those "only on TV" situations where the terrorists have taken control of the hotel and the CIA and FBI are counting on the AV guys to regain control of the communcations room. This guy can make it thru the laser beam security hallway and then steal the helicopter to rescue the presidents daughter and her girl scout troop.

Would you rather have DVD there or the guy whos passion is collecting old video games?

I would tone it down as that statement comes off to me as someone who has an unrealistic overly high opinion of themselves, but I would not mind at all if he told me in his resume that he thinks he is an excellent project manager. And then as you say I will ask more questions and see what he bases that claim on.

Lose the aol, get gmail.. Make sure you submit your resume for job ads, employers will not find your resume cause they need to pay extra to search. Update your resume daily in all systems by changing a sentence so you come to top for the few employers paying for search resume capability. Post it on craigslist also. Your resume is one of the most poorly done things I've ever witnessed, sorry! You seriously need to study good resumes and hire a pro resume writer!!!!

At this my brain said "cannot divide by zero". If you're a great project manager you don't design systems that clients can not afford. Seems you did not really a good job at evaluating the customers.

And, I know that it's always good do have a high opinion of yourself, but I prefer that people's work does the talking, not themselves. Sense of humor can be relative ...

I don't think it helps, a prospective employer may think it will be a distraction.

Here in the UK, a CV received for an AV installer position which contained the sentence "I believe I am the best project manager in the world" would be the first one in the bin. Sorry.

Needs:


1. More emphasis on education, certifications, licensing, etc, etc.

2. Less "I" experience and more on team experience.


A possible major no no?

If you are currently installing "digital video security systems" and are not security licensed, I would not have that on my resume as you're quite possibly admitting to breaking the law (most states require a security license to install said systems).

After you write smething, read it out loud VERY CAREFULLY and slowly, ensuring that you do not leave out a single word, ensuring that if a word is missing, you don't automatically add it in. Pretend it's the script for a science film or something, and listen for things that don't sound right.

For instance, "designed, sold" are in the past, but "troubleshoot" is present tense. This sentence would most simply be corrected as "Designed, sold, troubleshooted..." What the heck is the past of troubleshoot? At any rate, if you had read this out loud, or had someone else read it, you might have noticed that the sentence takes a sharp turn at that word.

"Best in the world" should definitely go. I sometimes make mistakes, and I would not want to hire someone who trumpets that he's better than me... 'cause I know I'm not the best in the world. If you're better than me, I'll find out and promote you. If you say that and EVER screw up, you're dog meat.

Do you too cringe at the hideous use of there, their and they're.....or discrete and discreet!.......why does my brain always see these mistakes?!

Seriously though dvd, I believe grammar mistakes on a CV might be seen as:

If the potential candidate can't get the grammar correct on something as serious as their employment then how much care and attention will they give on the job?
Maybe an old fashioned view but why take the risk? Get it checked if you haven't already!

I'd agree that the statement 'I believe I am the best project manager in the world' has to go.
Not sure why, but to me this sounds a bit like trying to pick up a girl by trying to convince her you're the best bloke at picking up girls!!

My issue with grammar is a little different.. my outrage/disbelief is directed towards the fact that we have their / there / they're or to/too/two. What psychotic group of moronic individuals decided that this would be a good idea?

It drives me crazy when people are bothered that someone forgot to turn on their crazy filter in the morning and forgot which version of their they're they are using over there.

Think about a muli-state button on a touchpanel.. lets say that...

Press equals lights on and Press hold equals lights off. Great.. pretty easy to figure out.

But what if press equals lights on and press-hold equals security system armed.

Thats the control system equivalent of what the grammar police have done with words like to and two. So please... for the love of god.. stop policing the forums and start trying to change the language so that its logical. Once the language is logical.. you can use logic to police its use.
