Guys I have been doing some looking and searching. I know a fella that has a ipaq 1945 that want 150 for it. Its in mint condition. I also have looked at the pronto 3000 with charger for about 250.00 shipped. (also i have seen the Dell x3 for under 150.00)

which one will be better for doing remote controll features/ future upgrades etc. I would love to have the pda/remote but only if it really gets the job done. What software would I use with the pda and does it really work.

if anyone has one for sale either above email me [email protected]

Dell Axim X3 performs MUCH better as a remote and costs only 219 Euro's here in Holland (less than 150 quid).

Stick with the Pronto. I have a TSU2000 and a NEO, along with 2 PDA's (including a 1910). The pronto hardware/software is the most compatible solution for IR. I love my iPAQ's but they just don't perform to the level of a Pronto when it comes to being a universal remote. I have a Yammie receiver as well and can tell you the Yamaha codes are very tricky for any pocket PC to handle. My Pronto's have NEVER failed to learn and transmit a code - granted, sometimes it takes a while or a little coaxing, but they get it done.

The Pronto has very strong IR, it is better then most OEM remotes and PDA solutions are not as strong. On the other hand a PDA can do most of what a Pronto can (i.e. graphics....) so it can make a good remote. Also the 3000 has a lot more hard buttons so that is a big + in it's camp.

If you want color, go for the PDA. The IR on the Dell x3 is adequate. You can even get 802.11B WiFi with the x3i. It can do more than the expensive color Prontos for far less cost. With PDAwin, you can program the navigation buttons to repeat for ±VOL & ±CH.

If you want RF, go for the TSU-3000.
