Hi. This RC stuff is all new to me, but here's what I want to do (and maybe someone here can help):
I have a whole house audio system (Russound) that has wall-mounted controllers in each room (with IR repeaters) to control my source components. The problem is two of these components are Sony 300 CD "jukeboxes" and I can't remember all the CD position numbers, making it difficult to select the right CD without going to the audio closet and looking it up. So I figured I could get a Palm and establish the database of my CD's (and perhaps the tracks if I have time) at the same time using it as a remote to control the jukes. Is there a way I could just find the CD in the database, select it, and give the play signal? If someone knows of the software for this, it would be appreciated. I would think my situation would be perfect for a Palm. I also have a digital cable box as a component and would like to similarly database and control all the music channels there. Any advice appreciated.

There is a product called OmniRemote which costs 20 US Dollars from www.pacificneotek.com and allows you to use your Palm as a universal remote control.

Once you have purchased a copy, you can download for free the development kit for OmniRemote. You can then design your own application based around the IR recording/playback capabilities of OmniRemote. If you know someone who is an experienced computer programmer then they should be capable of writing it.

Thanks! I checked into that program. It looks like it may work, but I need to integrate it with a dat abase program. I already have all my CD's in a Filemaker db. It's nice because I have jpg's of some of the covers along with all the data. It would be really slick to have mini icons on a list with the CD names, select the CD cover, name, or number, and push a macro that plays it (with the option of seeing the track details). I would also like to be able to export the titles to the CD players since the keyboard entry Sony uses is a pain. I noticed some folks on the Pronto board were working up a program for such purpose, but surely a PDA has the edge in the database area. The remote stuff is trivial, and Omniremote should suffice for getting stuff out.
Surely there has to be an archive CD or website somewhere with a huge downloadable database of artists, albums, and tracks so one could select the albums in their collection rather than hand-entering them all (Some of the jpg's I used were lifted from a certain CD vendor). Anybody know?

I give up! Looks like a Pronto will suit my needs the best. Thanks anyways.
