I am using an Extron DXP HDMI switcher in my house. TV is only watched for a few hours a day, as there is no on/off button on the switcher, I am thinking about controlling the power via a relay.

Does anyone see any problems with doing this?

Sorry i should have said, the swircher is in an in wall rack that is in my office. I wirh from home, hence in the office all day. The switcher is noisy as it has a fan running all of the time. So the point is two fold, to keep my office quiet and to save power.

My question being will turn the switcher on and off frequently cause any damage to the unit?

Understand. It shouldn't but being the manufacturer didn't include a power button, might not be advisable. Have you looked at replacing the fans in the unit with quieter ones? I've done this on a few Netgear POE switches that had stupid noisy fans.
