In this case I actually need 3 or 4 processors all talking to each other as if it was one system to really retro it all in easily. However, to do this with Crestron now would slaughter the budget.

Other option was to go RTI and put in an XP8 and then just IR blocks at the 3 extension locations, but I'm really trying to stick with Crestron as much as possible.

Anyone know a quick way to get the range of the remote a little further? The extender isn't shipping until June. I have some wireless switches on order to increase the mesh network, but they won't be in until next week. I'd like to have a bedroom remote working before then. Any band-aids until then?

The only thing would be to centralize the processor more, or maybe if it's in a metal enclosure move it out until you can either use the expander or other mesh network devices.

I didn't catch this! This is fully supported or a hack?

Turns out this EISC or rsd export/inport is not going to be available till September. It was supposed to be available the end of March. In fact, I was told on April 1, that it had already occured--erroniously. If you code in Simpl Xsig, xsig1 and xsig2 are avaiable at the price of a serial port. If you are coding in Systembuilder you're out of luck till they make the ESIC available or someone writes you a module you can input into Systembuilder.

the biggest issue im having with crestron so far is how long it takes to complile and upload . .

it makes it really hard to test the system, especially being new to creston and trying to learn by doing.

crestron classes are not available in my area yet. its a bit frustrating.
i called tech support to help me with a few things but they are so busy, they need to call me back..

This is a problem with Systembuilder since you have to build the project from scratch each time you make a change. I've had Systembuilder jobs that took 16-18mm to build/compile.

If you're testing IR/serial codes you will want to open the project in Simpl. If you're testing logic, enjoy the wait.

Huh? Your profile lists you as straight out of Brooklyn. Below is direct from Crestron's web site, though for the record the 17th is sold out. The others still have open registration.

Rockleigh, NJ

May 17 (Monday) - May 19 (Wednesday)

But if you're willing to travel:

Atlanta, GA

May 24 (Monday) - May 26 (Wednesday)

Chicago, IL

June 21 (Monday) - June 23 (Wednesday)

Or you could give me a call......................... As long as I don't have to actually enter Brooklyn........

Did you try an XSIG into a TCP/IP client/server setup?

You can roll your own solution but that's not my point in this thread. Most of the folks here don't know what an xsig is, let alone xsig1 or an EISC. Most of the folks in this thread are using Systembuilder so they need to wait for EISC to be exposed. There are a number of ways to hack this. I was told that EISC was exposed in March but it wasn't.

The differences between xsig and ESIC are technical and more relavent to the Yahoo group. As far as I'm concerned they are identical save for the delivery method. I'm not trying to teach a hack. I'm trying to support folks who are trying to play by the rules. I'm not sure Crestron will support xsig between two prodigies from a serial port but I'm certain they'd let a dealer hang if he employed an xsig routed to a TCP/IP client.

However, I've not tried your specific solution yet.

Not sure how you consider it a hack, they are two exposed symbols in the SIMPL database, and can be dropped into a Prodigy program. Doesn't really sound like a hack to me, I haven't re-written firmware or anything...

Whatever, just trying to help someone out of a jamb if it came up.

It's not my definition but Crestron's. you're suggesting something Crestron doesn't want done. Put it this way, when I put some of these questions to someone high up at Crestron his response was a turse and curt "because they are unsupported" ( meaning the exposed xsig symbols ).

This is something I'd prefer to discuss off board. You can make your own choice but this is an open board.

Does anyone know when the security system is planning to be released and what the approximate cost will be?
Thanks

re - training.

i actually signed up for the 17th,
but then realized it was on a jewish holiday and had to quickly cancel.

doh!

im actually kinda getting the hang of system builder and vt-pro
for the prodigy system i was working on, i had to create custom pages with custom logic (macros really) with page flips . . kinda dumbing down the systems capabilities, but at the same time stretching what the processor was meant to do via the wizard.

2 5.1 systems each with its own zone 2 - equaling 4 zones of audio, all customized via home made macros.

still using the existing template for cable, apple tv, and ipod, but made my own pages for PS 3 and aux audio input . .

its coming out pretty cool,
now i just have to figure out the logic so the system knows which zones volume to control and when.

That is a function of the underlying macros. Have you run it yet? There is an indirect text field at the top of the screen that tells you the room currently under control. Then the volume press for that audio zone are the presses for taht zone.

Have you run this yet or are you just doing this in code? Are you controlling the receivers via IR or serial? As long as you are tieing the zone volume press to the driver you should be fine. The only issue is that you may need to send these volume commands as analogs rather than button presses. It's how the underlying macros work. This would than take the analog volume feedback from the device and place it on the volume graphic.

If you're rolling your own try looking at global expression. There are a lot of ways to do this, gloval variable linked to the room in use being but one.

Thanks for reminding me to look up Shavuot. I had forgotten that erev Shavuot was the 18th.

wow al! erev shavuot huh . . pretty impressive.
i guess we might be from the same clan.

im actually working with variables for the volume,
testing it now.

i got a few morons on the phone at crestron,
then i finally got someone good. he knew exactly what i was talking about,
and steered me in the right direction. i took it from there.
the best part of the phone call was when he told me that i was heading in the right direction with the way i was programming . .

feels great for not doing any training at all yet!
means crestron + motech might be a good thing after all . .

: )
