Wondering if anyone has run into this. I am attempting to use my MacBook Pro running Parallels Desktop and Window XP with the MX-850 Editor software. Most everything I have tried with Parallels/XP works without a hitch, its really great.

So I got a usb to serial adapter which works fine on a XP Compaq laptop to connect to the MX-850. The Editor software 'sees' the remote, I can get the firmware version off it. However when I attempt to upload the existing configuration file in the MX-850 to the software, I get this error message - "Unknown answer - Wakeup" exactly that, capitals and all. (the error message is not in quotes of course).

Anyway, has anyone run into this message and if so, what does it mean?

Is anyone using a similar Mac OSX setup with Parrallels/XP and care to comment too, it would be appreciated.

Thanks all!!!

VS Com USB to RS-232 Plug-in adapter is what the package says. It came with its own software drivers and seems to be working correctly - the transmit lights go on etc. and it shows up in the Hardware list.

lennyd,
From my knowledge that error message is saying that the USB to Serial adapter is not configured to do a 2-way communication (upload / download). Check the software that comes with the adapter to see if there is any settings relating to this.

FYI - I bet you can download into the remote without a problem

Good Idea, I'll check. I wasn't able to verify whether it would do a down load but will later today. I think your right, that it probably will as it does 'talk' to the remote. I'll repost the results just for FYI

Careful with a download...it'll wipe out your current file and then you won't have it to upload.

Maybe you can configure the adapter correctly, if not, Belkin and Keyspan are the only two adapters reccomended by URC.

I do have my backup so I'm okay downloading. I did the download, so it does work as suggested above (only one-way).

In the device manager, there are settings for the device as follows:
Bits per second: 9600
Data bits:8
Stop bits:1
Flow control:None (choices are X/on X/off, Hardware & None)

There may be some other settings as well, but does anyone see anything wrong with these defaults?

It could be, too cheap of an adapter, of course but it might just be a setting. Any ideas?
BTW, thanks for these response, they are helpful. I can at least program but I always like to have the upload final version for back-up.

Well the resolution of the problem was the USB adapter. The company I bought it from was great with their support. They've two different manufacturers with the chipset being the difference. They sent out a 'Prolific' brand chip-set model which worked great. it was $14.95 plus a couple dollars postage. Their link is here:

Thanks for the tips!
