So what I'd like to do is leave the power off on the Xbox360 until I select it from the main 'Watch' page. If the variable is set to 0 I want it to turn on, and set the variable to 1. When I perform an 'All Off' from my main Watch page I want to turn the Xbox 360 off if it's set to 1, but do nothing if set to 0. This seems like the most basic use of the variable function. Can someone give me a 2-3 line tutorial? I don't see much in the little manual.
Obviously I'd rather MS release an update with discrete codes, but if they won't, then I would assume this is the best use of the variables for the 950, and what differentiates it from the lower models.
Thanks in advance for any tips! Adam

You sound as though you already know how to do it. On the software side, just do the following:
Select the XBOX button on the simulated view of the remote. Below the macro window (Bottom right of the software screen) labeled "type" change "NORMAL" to "VARIABLE". In the drop down window next to "type" (labeled "Variable") select "NEW". Create and name the new variable (XBOX POWER might work). Select that new variable in the "type" window. You'll now have two tabs on the macro window, one labeled "0" and one labeled "1". Since the "0" variable will include the step that turns on the Xbox, be certain to add a statement that tells the variable called "XBOX POWER" to change it's value to "1". Then make certain to include a step in the ALL OFF macro to reset the variable to "0" if the macro does indeed turn off the Xbox.

Thanks Jeff for the response! I understand the concept, but what I cannot figure out is how it handles an 'if / then' statement. If the Xbox_Power variable = 0 , then issue the Xbox Power command. Simply changing the variable from 0 to 1 doesn't actually do anything but change the value of the variable.
I'll play with it tonight, as the actual remote shows up today, so I can test it. I do appreciate you taking the time to reply though, and will try your steps above and see how it goes.
Otherwise I think I have this thing licked.
Thanks! Adam

Adam,
It's actually an IF/ELSE statement. It reads like this:
IF the variable called XBOX POWER = 0, send POWER command to Xbox ELSE (meaning that the variable XBOX POWER = 1) do nothing.
To make this work you need two macros. By telling the software that the macro called Play Xbox is based on the variable (XBOX POWER), you now have the same button capable of sending two different macros. The 0 value macro will turn the system on and the 1 value macro will do nothing (or turn it off if that is what you write it to do).

You also have to set the variable. Make two buttons on your Xbox device, they can be on a hidden page if you like. Then you can add these buttons in your macros.
Power On Button
If XBOX POWER = 0 (Variable state 0 on the macro) xbox power command Set XBOX POWER =1 Else (Variable state 1 on the macro) Do Nothing
Power Off Button
If XBOX POWER = 1 (Variable state 1 on the macro) xbox power command Set XBOX POWER =0 Else (Variable state 0 on the macro) Do Nothing
Hope this helps
