Hey guys,
Had purchased a MX950 recently and received the software to program it right away which was great and I was able to play around. When I was creating devices I cannot find several of my devices. For example this TV does not exist in the IR database:
KDSR70XBR2
Also could not find my Sony 5 disk DVD changer, Sony Amplifier. I can find devices close but not the device itself. Seems a little frustrating, anyone have any thoughts or comments on the limited IR database? I believe I have the current software, I have IR DB 1.79. Is there places I can find additional IR device codes for the MX950? This seems like a big limitation if it takes URC months/years to update some of the newer devices and if older devices just are not existent at all.
Thanks very much for any responses

Did you try the ones that are close to the ones you have? Granted it may not have the exact model of device you have, but from doing programming tons of these remotes I've rarely come across a device where there was absolutely no usable codes in the database and I just had to learn them in, usually from a really old, off-brand VCR or something.
But I know a lot of the Sony TV's use the same codeset so you'll be fine using a similar XBR model, same with the other devices.

Ahh very cool, was just surprised the database was not a little more current but I see what you're saying... it really does not matter for most devices. Thanks Nickko

Thanks very much for any responses Do you have the editing software with LiveUpdate enabled? If not, then you will not have the most recent DB codes. The database was updated about 2 weeks ago and is very current in terms of models.

My last install included a few components not in the IR DB when going to program the MX-950. That being said, I had no problems learning all of the needed codes from the original remotes, each of which included the discretes I needed thankfully.

Please keep in mind that we cannot list every single device by every single manufacturer - if we did it would take hours to do a live update and you'd need many gigabytes of space just to store it on your computer. That being said, we do add new models on a regular basis, but this only happens if the new model uses a different code set than a previous model. In addition, if you are dealing with a brand that you are not familiar with and you don't see a model number that is close you can always use the generic code set at the end of the list. You'll see something like Sony1, Sony2, Sony3...Sony15 with the highest number reflecting the most recent code set and number one being the oldest.
Hope that helps,
Jeff

My local retailer has the live update software on a computer in their store. Is it possible to get a copy of the entire IR database from them? If so, what is the file extension? I have IR database 1.77.

You can't copy the database from one software installation to another. If you need a specific device or devices, you could have them save it as a device file, then import it into your configuration. Mike www.SurfRemoteControl.com

That's what I thought I would have to do. That is unfortunate.

I asked around for an answer (I don't use a remote on my XBOX360). The 360 doesn't have discrete codes for ON or OFF, just a toggle POWER. We can't add that which doesn't exist!

Thanks very much for any responses Ciner, One tip is to look at the remote that came with the device. It will usually have a model number on it, either in the front or the back. Check the ir database and notice that many devices have the model number listed for the remote for the device. A manufacturer may use the same remote for several different models. Like Jeff said in a previous post they can not give the IR codes for every model and manufacturer due to file size considerations. Hope this helps, Dave T
