Does anyone have a solid ‘Power On and Off’ solution for the Cox Contour cable box - Cisco 9865HDC?

I've programmed the "Power On" and "Power Off" macros using variables as shown in MX-890 CCP Programming Manual.

These work fine as discrete on and off buttons throughout the day, EXCEPT at first use after being pulled off the charger (I can also duplicate this problem by doing a battery pull on the remote). It appears the remote defaults to assuming the cable box is on at this first use.

To get around this I added a '9865HDC Power Toggle" button to my 'Watch TV' home page. If possible I would like to eliminate this initial extra step.

Why not just leave it on?

i had a same issue with my western digital box and i did the same exact thing as you did.

that has to be achieved using a sensor. i am using a light sensor for western digital box to detect its on/off status.

but i think even a voltage sensor works. my other post that i made today, may be someone might answer that.

but, do you have a basestation that takes "Sensor" input?

No I don't. You have an interesting fix going for this issue though.

Thanks,
Mike

I would rather not.

If someone is watching something recorded on the DVR and does a power off, the DVR keeps right on playing the recorded show. DVR playback stops when the box is powered off.

Remove the variable completely, delete it. Re-add a new variable and first set it to your off status (0 or false). You can double click the variable to change the status in your macro if you must. Your remote is defaulting to you on status (probably 1 or true, depending how you set it up). See if that works.

Thanks. It's getting late so I will do that in the morning. I'm pretty confident that your suggestion will work.

I've been playing with this and it finally dawned on me that after a charge or battery pull, the variable is no longer set, so my Power On Macro has nothing to do. The power on macro as I have it requires the power state be set to OFF.

IF [Variable[Cable Box On], False]
IR[CABLE.043.POWER]
ELSE

VAR[Cable Box On = TRUE]

To prove this out I programmed a button that sets the power on variable to False. I then pulled and replaced the battery, press the button to set the variable to False, and my original Power-On macro works every time.

I just need to incorporate this into my Power On macro as you suggest. I'll let you know how it goes.

Adding a new Power variable and setting it to 'OFF' as goldenzrule suggested is working.

I ended up copying my 'Watch TV' macro to the 'ON' power button and then added the variable as the first step.

I wasn't using the power on hard button previously, so I'm thinking this was the most efficient solution.  Otherwise I would have had to add the variable to each of the 4 Activities I have on the main screen.
