Recently when updating a clients file via uploading the file from the remote I ran into some odd problems.

Any changes I make to the file after uploading seem to alter completely different task. This is a hard one to explain since it is so weird so I will give examples.

I opened the LCD button editor window after adding a 3rd page to WATCH and moved all devices from page 2 to page 3 so I could use page 2 for new devices. Moving the devices seemed normal until I closed the editor window and confirmed the moved items in the tree list. Well some how it also moved an item from page 1 to page 3, but when I tried to move it back to page 1 it asked me if I wanted to overwrite the device in the empty slot that the item was originally in. Essentially I couldnt change anything.

Then I opened the original file and all of the devices were scattered around. I was however able to correct the original file and make the changes I needed.

I am just curious what the problem was. I remember having this problem before and the way to correct it was to change the file type but that didnt seem possible.

Tech support didnt have any ideas.

I even unistalled and reinstalled the software (not to rub it in to those that can not get software)

I had something like that happen to me once. I think all I did was close the editor without saving. When I reopened it and did it again, it worked. Hasn't happened again.

The other day when I was programming an MX-950, the program would crash after downloading to the remote. Later, it worked fine. I given up trying to figure out why Windows programs sometimes do the things they do.

I had some of the same exact problems as you a few weeks ago with a couple remotes. Sometimes it wouldn't let me move an lcd button to another button, but it would create a blank device in the target button, if I renamed certain devices it would sometimes rename the main WATCH or LISTEN label with whatever I was typing, even though I was only renaming a single device, etc.... a lot of weird/random issues. I had sent tech support the file I was working on but never heard back about.

I finally had to work around all those issues (took me much longer than normal) to get the remote finished and chaulked it up to something in the config file becoming corrupted either during the transfer or while editing.

Ditto here! I lose devices all the time. Usually the AVR that I have stashed on pg2. The macros that contain commands from the AVR page work fine and the device shows up in the IR database page but not on the remote or the LCD editor.

Definitely do a "Save As...." to a different file name before doing anything else. Very often that can take care of things.

Sometimes, just closing and opening the program works, as Mike says.

Sometimes, rebooting your whole computer takes care of things.......... Windows! :-/

Well....I use this editor to make a living. This costs me time=money. This is a bug URC should fix yesterday. I suffered in silence long enough dammit! It really is a strange and annoying bug.

I would contact Eric Johnson at URC. Send him the file you are having a problem with and he can have his engineers take a look at it.

I changed the file name, closed and restarted the program, restarted my PC, and even unistalled the program and resinstalled. Even uploaded the file numerous times.

Guess the same lack of attention applies equally to their MX-3000 software. I use the URC software as a hobby and I have found & reported numerous bugs, defects and issues to URC. Some have been addressed, but there are still a whole pile of them with no resolution. Luckily for me I don't earn a living doing this, so I can only imagine how annoyed I'd be if I did. Do the AD/CI community not get a better response from URC when reporting these issues; or are they not being logged? Oddly enough the 2 defects (Delete Variable problems and Variable list box size) I reported end of 2005 are 2 of the 3 that were fixed between December 2005 and today. I know of numerous other issues, created a thread on this site to highlight these; but have seen nothing to date addressing the problems. C'mon URC - how about fixing your software?
