Ummmmm....... isn't that what Gary said? You get the software from you dealer?!!!

If you deal with an authorized dealer, expect and make sure you get the proper liveupdateable software. It IS as simple as that.

No longer true, Gary. If you try to update from the current
version, you get an error msg to contact dealer and that
"live update" no longer works except thru dealer. Pain
in the butt. But I did find the code for the Tosh. HD-A1,
which I hope will work with the A2 I just got - if I can
get them into the MX-3000.

I think everyone understands the process about getting the software from their dealer. Getting mine was simple. Seems to be your very first post, so welcome. SJ

I purchased my remote 4 weeks ago from an authorized dealer a place that has a great reputation and they refuse to give me the updateable software and now I'm stuck.. I wish it was as simple as that..

Yes, it was my first post and thanks for the welcome - and maybe I misunderstood. I got my unit/software from an authorized dealer and was not aware that it could only be updated through them. The manual seemed to indicate that the Live Update feature allowed for updating if you simply register online. I did, it was accepted but the update was still refused. The software runs fine, just won't update to the new database version (I have 1.76 and it shows 1.78 available.). I thought a simple database update would be simple without having to go through the dealer each time. Guess I was wrong.

BTW, I based this assumption on a post by someone from URC:

[quote]If anyone is having trouble getting software for your remote, simply open the battery compartment, note the serial number, then navigate to this site:

Like I said above, it's supposed to be and I have authorized dealer software. It just seems they have changed the update system from what the quoted post above seems to indicate.

Your authorized dealer is supposed to provide you with the proper software, unless otherwise contracted. I know of no change to that policy.

Is the MRF-350 the new one? I found out the old 250 is not woth buying ever? I had to already remove a few from a few homes and install the newer one with the remote antenna. I heard that they now have a totally new RF that uses a smarter band of RF and actually helps the IR RF issues that arrise from Sources & Components that emit more RF than the remote, so it basically blocks them out. I suggest saving your money for the MSC-400 and get your money back. This will open up a new world for you. Instead of your macros that let's say have a total time of 5 seconds to totally finshing to transmit, to a macro that only takes a slit second to transmit? It is possible as the new base station is able to store all the macros and then the remote is only a slit second trigger. I would say, you didn't realize what it's capabilities are. The exrta $$'s is priceless. I know it's twice the cost but well worth it and it really does make the remote bullet proof.

PS. If only URC would send me my MSC-400 already. I would have one in my home already. :-0

Well, the policy has changed from what it used to be - they admit it themselves in another thread and so does my dealer. Not trying to argue with anyone about this, just pointing out I'm not an obtuse newbie as seems to be implied by a couple of responses. I contacted my dealer, he admitted they changed the update policy and gave me the info I needed to get it. I now have it, but find the new policy a bit cumbersome. Thanks.

Gary,

As a fellow AVS'r and MX3000 owner, let me echo your
enthusiasm for this great, great remote. It puts us in
the company of the Creston and AMX owners - but at a CONSIDERABLY
lower cost.
rosariorose9

Hate to sound contrary when I have always enjoyed your input but, the MX3000 puts us (yes, I am a happy MX3000, MX850 and multiple MX350 owner) no where near Crestron or AMX. Nowhere near. The primary difference, and it's signifigance is enormous, is the 2 way capability or feedback of status available with Crestron, AMX, CQC and others. I personally use my 3000 to operate all of my HT, DA, and much of my HA (lighting, HVAC, sprinklers, ceiling fans, garage door, nursery cam, etc.) and I would kill to have feedback.

Be patient, I have read in some other threads that they are working on 2-way remotes. And that they will be out in 2007.

I've heard the same and I am eager for it. Obviously, it's a necessary step for URC as their competetion has clearly beat them to it. It makes it tougher to justify a $1000 remote when the fact is we could do so much more on a larger screen with a CPU, client touchscreen, global cache and some sweat for about the same price.

We've already seen a picture of an MX-3500 that says 2-way on it.

They have a picture in the 2006 CES video (along with the MSC-500). I believe it was a prototype of both units... SJ

Yes URC has stated that it is completely up to the individual AD whether they supply software with "Live Update" or not, so buying from an AD is no guarantee of receiving the updatable software.
