first post here guys (hang out at AVS), been reading for years and years and would like to thank everyone for all the info

I recently decided to dump my original Pronto 2000, it served me well and it still running 100% perfect to this day, it just wasn't gonna get it done anymore

I decided to grab a MX3000 and give it a whirl, I also owned a MX500 with the pronto and was very impressed with URC's stuff, those that have prontos and want to move to the MX3000, worry not, the 3000 every bit as good as the Prontos and IMHO is better in just about every way

I just love the software for the 3000, I can do anything with it and when I mean anything I mean that, it is a tweakers dream

I have mounted my MX300 and charge base in a fixed location, I have always wanted a nice mounted touch panel for my HT and I finally have it, I made the mount below out of a microphone stand and some rack mount brackets for a Panamax unit I owned, I mounted everything up and it worked out just perfect, swivel action and all

back to the MX3000, I took me forever to decide what to do with it, but being a PC geek and a photoshop pro, I just had to work myself up a custom Blade Runner setup, complete with movie music score and sound effects and real images along with fonts

here are some pics of my 3000:

just wanted to let anyone know that was wanting a MX3000 and was sitting on the fence, get one now!!!
the 3000 is one amazing piece of equipment, everything about it is perfect, when I get my IR issues worked out(I may get a MSC-400) I will be in remote heaven

Merry Christmas fellas

-Gary

Welcome to the club!....GREAT design layout...Very impressive, and a very creative mount..Get the MSC-400....it works great....Question...those thumbnails of your HD-DVD and Blu-Ray dvds...are they just images or do they actually start the movie???....i have a similar set up with normal dvds, using 4 sony DVP-CX995V 400 disc mega changer units and the DMX-3000 software...just wondering

thanks shnackz, if changers were available for HD-DVD/BR you can bet that would be my setup for sure, for right now it's just my gallery, I can't wait to be able to set that up though

that sounds like a sweet setup with the Sony changers, I would love to do that, but I use SDI for DVD so it would be kinda a pain if even possible

I am seriously looking at that 400, I have 5 or 6 components with rs232 and 2 or 3 with toggle only power, those voltage and video sensors would come in handy for sure

Gary,

As a fellow AVS'r and MX3000 owner, let me echo your enthusiasm for this great, great remote. It puts us in the company of the Creston and AMX owners - but at a CONSIDERABLY lower cost.

I also share your passion for tweaking, and the MX3000 is a tweaker's dream. Not to mention the fact that whatever experiments I try with my 3000 I always know that I have the 'safety net' of calling on the generous posters on this forum to answer my questions.

Welcome aboard.

I am coming at this from the other world, having been a computer geek for a long time and lusting for a customizable touch screen remote like the MX-3000, I am very happy with it as well. Took a few hours to get used to the programming environment, but now that I understand the options and capabilities I have it set up to control ALL of my electronics in the house, 5 different rooms, plus about 40 X-10 devices. The big selling point to the boss (or wife, if you will) was that she could finally run everything without having to ask me what buttons to hit. I even plugged my DLP TV into an X-10 module so that she can do the power disconnect/reconnect that is required every month or two when the TV goes off into some strange mode where nothing displays no matter which input is used. If you are not experienced in programming user interfaces I would recommend a consultation with your favorite geek to help you design the layout and navigation BEFORE you start and waste a bunch of time making some confusing mess of screens. The few caveats so far:

1. Still working out the kinks in the RF, some components work just great with the MRF-250 emitters and some do not, haven't really finished testing yet. For example, my Denon receiver can't have the emitter stuck directly on the front, I actually hang it in the air an inch in front of it and it then it works 100% of the time, kind of strange actually.

2. Bought the first one online from the cheapest source, which turned out to be HypeAudio.net. Do NOT buy from them, they are some kind of counterfeit house in NYC, and rude to boot when you call them with a problem, like for example you screwed me and I want my money back. I found out my remote was not the real thing when I called the manufacturer for tech support and after being asked to provide serial numbers for both the remote and the RF base, found out the NEITHER one had a serial number sticker where they were supposed to be or anywhere else for that matter. Lesson learned, don't buy one online unless its from a top tier source that you know and trust, these guys make me sick, I should've checked more than just the shopzilla rating before buying from them. Now that I've done more research on them it seems that they've even been charging credit cards for fake shipments of products in the following months, so now I have to check my credit card statement carefully every month so that they don't pull that crap with me. Hopefully I can save someone else from getting hosed by these jerks in the future.

I switched from a RTI T2 (that died) to a MX3000. I also own a MX950. RTI's policy of not letting anyone but installers access their products did them in for me. I'm an engineer, programmer, etc. and enjoy working with these products. I realize that our Hobbys (because of the growth of the industry) are now becoming people's livelihood etc., but anyway... The MX3000 is a fantastic product. I've had mine since 2004 when they were first released. Overall, great performance.

Of course now Universal isn't letting anyone but installers get their software either.

Not sure I understand your comment. I received new/upgradable software for both my MX-950 and MX-3000 from the authroized dealers that I purchased them from. I am not a professional installer... SJ

totally untrue, you buy from a authorized dealer you get what software you need, live update etc.

I am getting my MRF-350 today from Surf(can't swing the 400 right now), can't wait to get that going, my remote quest should be over soon

Gary,
How did you mount your MX3000? parts, etc. I'm thinking of doing something similar. Thanks.

pretty easy guys, I got a 2 piece radio shack mic stand, cut it off how tall I wanted it(the outer pole), the beauty of this is the inner mic stand piece moves around inside the bigger one, allowing swivel action, so cut it as short as you want, maybe 2 feet

I then grabbed some rack mount brackets for a Panamax 4300 I had laying around, I took those and screwed them into the back of the charge station, I then took the brackets and mounted them on the inner mic stand pole at a good angle, they squeeze the inner mic pole with nuts and bolts

it works perfect, as does my MRF-350 I got yesterday, what a setup, I am in remote heaven

Surf is the greatest, I highly recommend them

Gary,

Thanks. Think I'm going to see if I can fabricate it.

let me know if you are wondering about anything else, I wrapped duvetyne tape around the inner pole where I wanted it to stop and in the same location below on the outer pole and it gives it a nice smooth movement because the tape is resting on each other, you can see it in the pics

the charge base has velcro which the remote attaches to(so it doesn't come out, but allows me to remove to program), sadly it keeps the remote off the contacts just barely, when I want to charge I use a rubber band to hold the remote and base together to charge

No longer true, Gary. If you try to update from the current version, you get an error msg to contact dealer and that "live update" no longer works except thru dealer. Pain in the butt. But I did find the code for the Tosh. HD-A1, which I hope will work with the A2 I just got - if I can get them into the MX-3000.
