I had no problem obtaining the MX-980 Software from URC after a phone call and a fax to URC, But currently I am having problems with recognizing the remote as a usb device. It will state that the USB Device is an Unknown Device, fom my experience that usually means the drivers are incorrect.

When I look in the directory "C:\Program Files\Universal Remote Control, Inc\MX-980 Editor\Usb" all the folders have a driver file with similar naming scheme.

ie.
mx3kusb
mx3kusb_XP_x86
mx3kusb_Vista_x86

From the naming, it seems like it is for MX-3000. I have tried to force Windows to use the all three drivers (through Device Manager) and am unable to gain connection using MX-980 Editor. I have tried it on two different PCs with the same result.

I was hoping someone could check to see what is the driver name on their system. I think the install that URC supplied me does not have the drivers for MX-980 but only for the MX-3000.

Also is there a certain procedure to installing the software?

Thanks in Advance. Just wanting to program my remote.

My OS is Windows XP

The Fix: Bad USB Cable, used my Digital Camera USB Cable and it worked.

A quick search of the URC forum listed about 5 different threads on the same topic, or close enough to try stuff. Do a search before you ask, then if you still don't find a solution, be specific on your OS etc....also, the remote must be awake when you plug it in.

Thanks Matt, I guess I should of listed my OS as Windows XP, i did see and read most of the threads about people having problems with Vista and Drivers, but none on Windows XP, if there are some on Windows XP let me know what you searched so I can find them.

Yeah MS Active Sync 3.7 was installed with the application.

Can anyone tell me what the filename of the driver they have when they plug their 980 into their Computer?

Thanks for the tip about the bad USB cables. I wasted hours at a customers house trying to connect to two MX-3000s. I tried both remote and both USB cables. I finally gave up and went home. After reading your post I tried another cable from a digital camera. I was able to connect to the remote, the first time, after I plugged in a different cable.

Best regards,
Randy

You're welcome.

After posting here, I went to URC's website and found we were not the only ones this
happend to.
It seems that URC got a bad batch of cables.
So you may want to keep the camera cable in your laptop bag as a backup.
I don't want to get started ont the lost time issue, that sure was an expensive cable.

Yeah, fought with this for some time, hours. Finally on the third USB cable, the PC saw the device as a MX-3000 and all works.

I appreciate all the advice etc that was extended.
