I'm not too concerned about whether or not its waterproof. I have kids, bring food and all types of things that cant get wet. The remote doesn't have to be fancy, just powerful. Any recommendations on remotes with model numbers (I would even buy used on ebay).

What does a base unit look like? Does that require power?
