GLS, you did not mention what HDMI made and model you are you using. There are multi factors that cause the hand sake process fail.
1. Cost saving HDMI cables
2. If you have not do the search on this forum or other AV related forumss: Panasonic Blu-ray player and Denon AVR are a FATAL match. At least to my experience.
