I have soldered the cable myself, mini-din is a pain solderring.
After a few hours trying different baud rates and protocols it seem's to work with 9600-n-8-1 and a protocol looking like this:

What really surprises me is that i can't find any query commands and no discreete for power on/off. (above axample toggles power)
Is this the same protocol you are using?
