At the last DirecTV install the sat guy (not DirecTV an actual sat company) put in a new DISH and a SWM product that allowed me to feed 4 HDDVR's with 1 wire each and nothing at the dish end to split anything into the second tuner input.
Is this because the HDDVR is doing something internally when set up for SWM?
