1024 x 768 was standard for 4:3 standalone monitors. The most common resolution for standalone 4:3 monitors is now 1280 x 1024.

Widescreen sizes that I see on the Dell web site are 1280 x 768, 1920 x 1200, 1680 x 1050, 1366 x 768, 1440 x 900.

Notebook screen resolutions are all over the place. My Dell notebook is 1680 x 1050 and I have an attached monitor of 1920 x 1200. PEP is very hard to read on the big monitor.
