The reason the Installer's receive better software is
to keep these remotes in a more "custom" market. Universal
offers other remotes that are targeted toward the regular
consumer. If you, as a standard consumer, had access to
the same software as I do, as a custom installer, how
could I charge for "custom" programming.
Consumers can get the exact same software if they buy authorized.
