Sorry to come back to you so late, but cheers for the info.
Just ordered a logitech remote as I tried to contact Philips about a repair and was told it wouldn't be worth it (ie would be almost as much as a replacement).
I have to say I'm not happy with Philips. This is the second time this remote has gone belly up. The first time it failed inside the warranty, but this time I was left high and dry. I think a year's warranty on a product like this is wholly in adequate. Ok, I've had the remote for a while now, but the problem first surfaced about 18 months after I bought it.
Not good enough, so I'm knocking Prontos on the head until Philips sort out their customer service. And I was a loyal customer. I had two prontos and was saving up for a colour model.
Oh well, their loss.
