I have - on several occasions - put forward the
suggestion/request that Philips implement either
a software NetX or a hardware NetX with a serial
port output rather than IR.
The GC-100 has both an RS-232 port (two-way) and multiple I/O ports (used for IR or RF) and is 1/3 the cost (~$135 from Worthington) of the braindead NetX. There are versions with multiple RS-232 ports, relays, and additional I/O ports.
Letting the iPronto talk to the GC-100 over the LAN using WiFi would open up a multitude of possibilities.
