Your statement suprised me so I did a little research. Does your remote say UHF at the bottom on the front. That is the UHF I'm talking about. That alone doesn't mean it won't do IR. However you appear to be out of luck. 4000 is a UHF only model. There are some mods you can do with the purchase of some hardware, but nothing you probably want to do. Again, get a 501. $200 if you extend your contract. My wife hated our satelite until we got the 501 and now she loves it. It's that much better. Also, did you try a search?
