Mine did exactly the same thing. I did some testing and found the battery was dead dead flat and wasnt charging via the base station. I my case I charged the battery using my camera charger, same voltage etc and after 30 mins put the battery back in the remote. Since the "jump start" I've not had another problem. Unless you can do something similar i would try leaving it in the base station longer. Some people suggest a small piece of cardboard jammed behind the battery to press the terminals hard against the remote contacts. Alternatively it could be a faulty battery.
