I had also had problems with the mini remote using the HKtc30 which uses the harmony database.

The usual devices do not work

There is a 3rd party software app that gives full functionality to the apple remote.
In the help/FAQ section it gives lots of help for universal remotes and the correct device for the harmony remote.
