If those results are accurate then you have it correct.
NEC1 protocol is (commonly refered to as) a 32 bit code which will yield 256 codes for any given device number.
Most protocols are similar. There are some 48 bit codes (most notably kaseikyo) that will yield up to 4096 codes for any given device number.
Mail me and I can provide you with a simple excel sheet and process for transferring and documenting the results into a useful format.
