I guess another option would be for me to use the philips extender to detect if the device is on, have to check the best option here, I think a Audio signal version is better than trying to detect the power usage as the power usage of the Sky+ fluctiate substancially when recording etc..

Mind you at the moment I have a dead box, so looking at my options to replace/fix this. Not so easy as I'm not located in the UK. Looks like the powersupply has died.
