Hello.
It may not exactly what you're after, but I created a little PIC16x84 program once do do exactly what you want, but for a projector instead.
The PIC code is small, runs on 4800BPS, can be modified to whatever commands you would like to send. Accepts RC5 ir commands. It can all be tucked inside a DB9 shell.
I can probably give you the PIC code, but this requiers you to be handy with a PIC assembler yourself, as I can't give that much support...
