It's probably wired for Dolby Pro-Logic. The rears are a mono config that would work with that wiring. But your out of luck for anything 'better'.

Those builders usually take the lowest bidder on wiring and not really 'care' how or why it's wired that way. Normally, I try to get in contact with the buyer if possible to get some input from them!
