Personally, I think this is inconvenient for the non-certified dealer, but the right approach. The certified dealers really know how to fix the problems, and the $900 charge (really?) is for a whole lot of education.
Plus, once you get the certification, you get to call a number reserved for you. To consider the alternative, see how long your hair grows after being placed on hold when you call 800 222-SONY, or when you wait for Pioneer to call you back because they never seem to be there. THOSE services are free to everybody!
