a customer has a KT-DB816, the digital phone system that was installed by someone else who is no longer in business... He called me and asked me to see about getting this fixed...

When his secretary tries to transfer a call to an outside line, it does the transfer, but you can't hear anything but faint echoes...

has anyone ever had this problem and knows of a cure? (ripping it out and sending it in for repairs is an option- i think)

Good Luck!

I you are not a Pansonic DIGITAL system dealer, they won't even talk to you. You have to enter your dealer number before you get a live body.

Very frustrating for those of us who aren't the digital guys, but occasionally get called to fix them when the original dealer goes under!

but, with you being a certified Panasonic guy, it shouldn't be too bad, getting calls from unauthorized dealers to fix systems that non- certified people like me get called in to fix, since if we want to make our customers happy, we HAVE to call you....
(i don't install phone systems, and don't pretend to- all I'll do is run the wires along with any coax I run, but since I an this particular customer's home tech go-to guy......)

Problem solved.. the Panasonic rep gave me the number of a local guy who does nothing but Panasonic phone systems (and that's ALL the panasonic rep would tell me, other than, "Hey, we're having certification classes soon- $900 a person"... heh)

Personally, I think this is inconvenient for the non-certified dealer, but the right approach. The certified dealers really know how to fix the problems, and the $900 charge (really?) is for a whole lot of education.

Plus, once you get the certification, you get to call a number reserved for you. To consider the alternative, see how long your hair grows after being placed on hold when you call 800 222-SONY, or when you wait for Pioneer to call you back because they never seem to be there. THOSE services are free to everybody!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I agree with certification, and 900 bucks is pretty cheap. Plus, it looks good on the resume!

What about the 10K a month is SALES they require you to do to keep the dealer status?? Its not as easy as just sitting through there training and never selling a job. They want money from your sales, No sales, No dealer...

right, me too. The distributor requires me to have the certification number to buy the digital phone systems, but not for just the analog (i.e. hybrid) systems.

You have a good distributor there, Ernie... the guy who sold my customer his system bought it from a wholesaler who sells digital systems to anyone...

Next time that distributor pisses me off, i'll tell Panasonic....LOL
