Well, I wouldn't take off the back off a Pioneer
anyway. AFIK, you can lose the mirror that way.
I usually pull the screen on Pioneer sets.

IF you remove the upper MOLDED plastic cover, you WILL lose the mirror. In fact, the mirror will fall into the screen, damaging both.
If you remove the LOWER masonite panel, you'll easily see the the IR receiver between the red and green guns.
We attach a blaster to the inside of the plastic cover near the bottom, facing towards the IR receiver.
Always works great for us.
