I'm doing a Crestron install on a HT w/ a Mitsu 80" TV. The good news is there are discrete codes for everything I need. The bad news is that I can't find a place to intall the emitter to make the TV respond (commands work via remote). A few years ago I was forced to take a Mitsu apart an install the emitter inside, but this client doesn't want me to do this. Anyone have any experience with this?

The emitter is most likely behind the glass. Crestron sells an IR blaster. You might be able to remove an access panel or find a way to insert the blaster into the TV w/o physically modifying the enclosure from the rear.

I have never seen the 80" Mitsu, so must ask... is there an IR input / system link connector on the rear panel?

I have never heard of an 80" Mits either. If it is 2 years or newer, the IR receiver is inside. That way the TV can be built-in to a cabinet and still have use of the IR. Going inside is the best way. Convince your customer of that.

Well, I wouldn't take off the back off a Pioneer anyway. AFIK, you can lose the mirror that way. I usually pull the screen on Pioneer sets. W/ most Mits sets, you can pull the front grill and control panel, and see the sensor. Haven't tried a 73" though. I do know that the WS-73711 cabinet comes apart in two halves (2 screws on each side behind srew caps) to make delivery easier on those 2nd floor installs.

jcmitch, exactly what models of Mitsubishi allow you to see the sensor by taking off the grill and control panel? The usual metod is to remove the screen and place an emmitter over the the IR receiver just below and in front of the center or right gun. It takes two guys 5 minutes. What model is the 80 inch and how old is it anyway?

well, you may have better luck using a small blaster just below the screen and firing inside the unit. I've had issues trying to go in the TV.

IF you remove the upper MOLDED plastic cover, you WILL lose the mirror. In fact, the mirror will fall into the screen, damaging both.

If you remove the LOWER masonite panel, you'll easily see the the IR receiver between the red and green guns.
We attach a blaster to the inside of the plastic cover near the bottom, facing towards the IR receiver.

Always works great for us.

Thanks....small board on back allowed access to the receiver. Now I remember the trouble I had when I did this before. To ensure near perfect IR reception, I attached the emitter to the receiver, but this slightly interferes w/ normal IR control when remote is aimed at set.

As for all the inquiries, I'm not a Mitsu dealer...customer has had the set a few years..here's the details:
Model VS80803.
Size 80" 4:3
Unit is (Mitsubishi) HD Ready which means it has RGB BNC's and adding a bulky science kit looking box allows it to receive 1080i images. I'm not a big Mitsu fan, but the picture looks quite good for 80". I think mostly because it appears not to process/convert any of the analog inputs/CATV to digital, which is where most sets start to look lousy (especially in early production HD Ready sets).
