Actually a 1024x1024 alis panel is true HD, it is the only resolution that does not scale 1080i. it just clips 54 pixels out of the picture. All other resolution hd plasma's scale to 780p. So depending on your source(i.e. an HDTV sat box at 1080i) and as you stated if you have a video processor like a Faroudja the alis panel could look really great. The new alis panels have very high contrast as you stated, though most manuafactures do not give numbers.
