That SINGLE SLICE indicator is not new, so it's not a result of lawsuits. It dates from when kids could climb trees and actually exercise their muscles with nobody worrying about a lawsuit as the result of a pulled or torn ego.

Anyway....

I made up the reason that whatever the hell it is that triggers the toaster to come up is located on that side, so if that side is empty, it will get hot there faster without the bread in it, so pop up before the toast is ready.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I'd be more interested to know why all toasters I've ever had, with the exception of the $19 piece of crap 4-slicer I now have, use a scale from 0 to 10 but 3.14159 is well done, 4 is black, and 10 rivals the sun. My current cheap toaster is set to six and is just great.
