I'll admit that therre are a lot of hippie dippy nutcases
jumping on the side of global warming, and the usual parade
of stupid celebrities... but take politics out of it.
Take Gore out of it.
Stan, there's just no imaginable way to do that other than to be delirious.
On the surface it sounds good to "go green" and all that's attached to it. But who will dig deeper and consider the ramifications?
To clean the air further, require Detroit to notch back their emissions to a currently improbable level. OK, they figure it out to the tune of another $500-1000 per car. They are already at a huge disadvantage to Japan and particularly Toyota. Do you want to risk the entire auto industry as we know it? GM sells more cars outside the US than here. Isn't that a little bizarre?
Global warming. Great hot button and debating point. We can probably agree that there is a consensus on slight temperature increases this century. We can't agree that WE (as in the U.S. all by ourselves) can do anything to impact the temperature changes. We haven't tried it, it can't be proven that we can do a whit with our "remedial measures", China won't help out, so again, do you want to risk our economy on something that is totally unproven? Billions of dollars that businesses have to pay, that will be passed on to all of us...in this global economy, a businessperson would say we are putting our international competitiveness behind the 8 ball and give even a greater edge to the far east, add to the trade deficit...
You can't separate it from politics because politics unfortunately is all about power and the global warming thing can give power to the party that stirs us up about it and rallies us up to get behind it. Algore is at the head of the list. Regardless of party affiliation, that guy is pretty slimy, don't you think?
Is there anything to this?
