ok.. let's look at Greenland.
Do you know why it's called Greenland? Because it used
to be green. The Vikings had colonies there when it was
fertile farmland.
I thought the story was that Greenland was always frozen, but Iceland was the nice place and the Vikings gave them their respective names to entice people to Greenland and keep them away from Iceland.
