IMO the financial climate will improve for most of us in the west but i doubt we will ever see "fewer people dying needlessly" in our lifetime.
So long as religion and natural resources play a role in politics you can bet there will be war. If oil wasnt valuable the middle east would be the cultural mecca<-pun of the world. And dont get me started on Diamonds...
