You've confirmed the impression I had after playing around with the T2 software, namely that the T2 would probably suit me and other frequent users of my setup better than the Pronto does, but wouldn't be as easy to make newcomer-friendly (prompts, multi-level menus, etc.)

Out of curiosity, did you try using the cursor controls as transport buttons? When I was playing around with the T2 software making a device for the TiVo, I tried setting it up so that tapping the left/right buttons would send rewind/FF codes, and holding them down for half a second would send the cursor pad codes. Seemed to work reasonably well in the simulator, but that's a far cry from actually trying it for real.
