I also use flags even with discrete Power On and include
a 3 second delay (because Denon Receivers won't accept
an input command for that period), makes for far quicker
input changes.

Thats not exactly true. WIth RS232 I can change inputs on the receiver after only 2 seconds. I use that timing in all my Denon macros (which is 85% of my RTI systems)

I also use flags though. This, in my opinion is an "issue" with Denon receivers. A CI-"friendly" line I can see no reason why a receiver can't have Discrete input commands, that ALSO turn on the receiver (ie one touch to power up and set to correct input), and if the receiver is already on, and on same input, and in same surround mode as you request via RS232, there should be no break in the action.

HK receivers turn on with an input press (if I remember correctly).
And I know that Pioneer Elite receivers don't "resync" if same input is reselected.

The are some things I LOVE about the new Denons, and I like the line overall.... but this small issue seems like such an obvious one to anyone who installs their receivers with a programmed remote. Next Year!
...couple a thumb tacks and a stick of double sided tape should hold this baby up...
