Tom, the electricians were around to make some changes in the three-phase 220 panel at the factory/store I worked at.
I walked into the bigscreen, video source and A/V receiver room and smelled burning Japanese Power Transformer. A distinct smell.
As I walked out toward the power panel, I met an electrician who was coming up to see if everything was all right -- he had removed the breaker for that room while still connected to its output wire, and had let it sit on the 220 buss for a couple of minutes before he noticed it.
It's really interesting that when Japanese power transformers overheat, they smell so different from American ones.
